Fresh herbs enhance both food and health! How to grow your own.
-
Beginner?
Invest in hardy herbs such as oregano, tarragon, thyme, lemon balm, sage and rosemary.
-
From the grocery store
Herbs you buy in the grocery store are perfect to eat here and now, but they are not adapted to last all summer. If you want to prolong the life of the herb - replant the herb in a larger pot with flower soil, cut it down and add some nutrition once a week.
-
Sun - but not too much
Place the herb in a bright window, a sunny patio or on the balcony. Protect the herb from scorching sun and strong winds.
-
Water
Water the herb regularly, but allow the soil to dry from time to time. The more soil in the pot, the longer the herb survives on a watering.
-
Late in the season
Do the herbs thrive at the end of the summer? Harvest everything that remains with a pair of scissors, spread the herbs on a newspaper and then let it dry! Store the dried herbs in jars, preferably in a dark pantry. An alternative is to leave the herbs in their pots and see who survives the winter.
-
Think of!
Rosemary and lager do not tolerate frost. Basil is an annual plant and therefore only lasts one season, plus it can not withstand temperatures below ten degrees.
-
Eat and enjoy
Sure, it's fun to watch the spices grow! But do not forget to harvest from time to time and enjoy the herbs in the food.
Good luck!
